Investors in Latvia continuing to look for investment projects

In the current situation, of course, investors have become more cautious, but life does not stop. There is still a demand for many products and innovations, so investors remain open to offers.

“The venture capital industry, like all other industries, is currently in a situation where everyone is evaluating what is happening, looking for new opportunities, trying to find the best solutions and hoping for a reasonable exit from this situation,” sums up Anita Matisone, head of the Latvian Venture Capital Association. “As for our portfolio managers, they are very active in helping them with their professional advice and contacts to get through this situation. We also listen to the advice of our member lawyers and circulate this information to our members. The second part that definitely needs to be talked about is that in such moments new markets open up and there is a demand for new products, which is related to the changes in the global situation. It is an opportunity for existing companies to expand the range of products and services, but for new entrepreneurs to build new businesses. And our venture capital funds are ready to fund such projects if they are viable because funding remains available even today. ”

The Latvijas Business Angels Network (LatBAN) too continues its active work. It is possible to apply for the investment session until April 14. “Our members’ choice of investment is usually based on a well-thought-out and prudent project evaluation. The criteria and evaluation do not change – attractive business projects have always been the focus. Rather, it is a question for startups – whether they are ready to react and adapt, change existing or create new business models, and be convincing when facing questions from investors,” said LatBAN executive director Kaspars Garkevičs. He also admits that foreign startups are more willing to take advantage of remote communication opportunities. On the part of Latvian startups, there is a decline in interest.
